    Filing tax for A.Y 2009-2010

Hi, I would like to file my taxes for the Assessment Year 2009-2010, I have not filed any return as there was no tax on what i earned for the said A Y. Would like to file the return this year, do i need to pay any penalties for not filing that year itself? Is there any Income Tax dept link which will brief me about this issue? Appreciate your response

Is there a special reason why you want to file return for the past when there was no tax? Why do you want to take the trouble.

For past years, the return can not be filed online. You have to talk to the assessing office at Income Tax office who may levy a fine of Rs 5,000 upon his discretion.

Here is a link on late filing: http://www.investmentyogi.com/taxes/income-tax-return-filing-after-due-date.aspx
